Message of congratulations to Governor-General of Australia Peter Cosgrove on national day

Your Excellency,

Allow me to extend congratulations, both personally and on behalf of the Lithuanian people, on the occasion of the national holiday of your country - Australia Day. I wish you and the people of Australia many memorable moments of celebration as well as continued concord and well-being.

I am delighted that bilateral relations between Lithuania and Australia are developing on the basis of strong people-to-people contacts and friendship continuously expanded and strengthened by the large Lithuanian community in Australia. I firmly believe that the genuine century-long dialogue maintained by our citizens will also bring the Lithuanian and Australian young generations closer together and serve as a foundation for new business, cultural and scientific initiatives.

Australia and Europe and connected by deep cultural bonds and ever-growing trade ties. I strongly believe that the European Union and Australia stand ready to work together in addressing key regional and international issues, especially in contributing to peace across the world. I am confident that our partnership based on shared values will further advance bilateral cooperation as we deal in a united manner with common challenges and secure peace, stability and well-being for the citizens of our countries.

May I again congratulate you on national day. I would also like to take the opportunity to extend my congratulations to you as the new Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia. I wish you much resolve and every possible success.
