Message of congratulations to President Simonetta Sommaruga of the Swiss Confederation on assuming office

Dear Madam President,

I wish to extend sincere congratulations to you on assuming the office of the President of the Swiss Confederation and to send my best wishes for your success, wisdom and resolve in working for the good of the people of your country.

Lithuania and Switzerland have developed a strong relationship built on trust and common values throughout decades of consistent collaboration. I am pleased to note that, in recent years, an increasing number of initiatives are being launched by the people of both countries to pursue new avenues of cooperation in trade, investment, culture, education, and science.

I strongly hope that very soon we will continue our dialogue on issues of concern to both countries and Europe, and explore options for even closer contacts between our two countries and their people. I am confident that a full, open dialogue and fresh initiatives will not only strengthen our bilateral relations, but will also contribute to better mutual understanding of our cultures and traditions.

May I again offer my congratulations as you assume the important and responsible duties of the Swiss President. Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration and the best wishes of the Lithuanian people.
