Messages of Congratulation

Please accept my congratulations on you approval by the European Parliament as President of the European Commission. I am very pleased that by making this decision the European Parliament, just like the European Council in June of 2009, gave due credit to your work and efforts in leading the European Commission, particularly in the face of today’s economic and financial downturn, as well as to your resolve to continue strengthening the European Union and to seek its leadership in the world.

On behalf of myself and the people of Lithuania, allow me to congratulate you on the occasion of Slovakia’s national holiday – Constitution Day. I wish you and your country prosperity and success.

On behalf of myself and the people of Lithuania, I extend sincere congratulations on the occasion of the national holiday of Moldova – Independence Day. I wish you and the people of your country prosperity and success.

On behalf of myself and the people of Lithuania, I extend sincere congratulations on the occasion of the national holiday of Ukraine – Independence Day. I wish you and the people of your country prosperity and success.

On behalf of myself and the people of Lithuania, I extend sincere congratulations on the occasion of the national holiday of Afghanistan – Independence Day. I wish you strength and endurance and I wish your country and its people harmony and concord.

I sincerely congratulate you on assuming the duties of this high and important position, which I have no doubt you will discharge with great distinction. This past March we celebrated five years of Lithuania’s membership in the North Atlantic Treaty organization (NATO). Through all five years, we have spared no effort for strengthening the Alliance and we are determined to stand by our commitments to NATO and the Allies.

On behalf of myself and the people of Lithuania, I extend sincere congratulations to you and the citizens of Macedonia on the occasion of national holiday – Day of the Republic. I wish you every success and I wish your country and its people lasting harmony, prosperity and well-being.

On behalf of myself and the people of Lithuania, I extend sincere congratulations on the occasion of your national holiday – Swiss National Day. I wish prosperity and success for your people, your nation, and you personally. Lithuania and Switzerland are bound by their long and rich history of living in the common European home. 2009 is a very special year not only for Switzerland that is celebrating the 718th birthday of the foundation of the Swiss Confederacy, but it is also immensely important to Lithuania and its people who are commemorating the Millennium of Lithuania.

On behalf of myself and the people of Lithuania, I extend most sincere congratulations to you on the occasion of the National Holiday of Belgium. I wish the people of your country prosperity and the best of success.

On behalf of myself and the people of Lithuania, I would like to extend sincere congratulations on the occasion of the French national holiday – Bastille Day. I wish you and the people of your country prosperity and success. Bastille Day stands as a symbol of change for both the citizens of France and for all Europeans. In these difficult times of economic crisis, state and national symbols can and must bring us all together not only to overcome new challenges or complete the work that we have started, but also to find strength for translating innovative ideas into action and to show personal example in doing so.
