Press ReleasesThe President received letters of credence from Tanzania’s ambassadorThursday, January 29, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė accepted letters of credence from the Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dora Mmari Msechu.
The President and the Ambassador discussed the importance of cooperation in international organizations. The President noted that Lithuania valued Tanzania's role in UN peacekeeping missions, in particular in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Darfur and Lebanon.
According to the President, bilateral economic cooperation between Lithuania and Tanzania is growing stronger, but it is important to explore new spheres of collaboration. Tanzania's economic growth is the fastest in the region, competing with economically strong Kenya.
Education and student exchange opportunities were also reviewed at the meeting. Tanzanian students would be welcome in Lithuania, the President said.
Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Tanzania were established on 11 November 1993.
Dora Mmari Msechu, born 1956, is Tanzania's fourth ambassador to Lithuania. She resides in Stockholm. In 1984, the diplomat obtained a Master's Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy and the next year embarked on her diplomatic career: served as the head of Tanzania's diplomatic missions in Delhi and Ottawa, director of the Multilateral Cooperation Department at the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
